St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is one of the historic anchors of Baltimore’s Greek-American and Orthodox Christian community, located in the heart of Greektown / Highlandtown in Southeast Baltimore. Founded in the early 1950s to serve the growing concentration of Greek families in that part of the city, the parish emerged because local Greek residents needed a closer spiritual, educational, and cultural center rather than traveling across Baltimore to older parishes. The first priest was assigned in 1953, and the church became a defining institution for preserving Hellenism, Orthodox worship, Greek language, and community life for generations of Baltimore Greeks.
