Founded in the early 1950s to serve the growing concentration of Greek families in that part of the city, the parish emerged because local Greek residents needed a closer spiritual, educational, and cultural center rather than traveling across Baltimore to older parishes. The first priest was assigned in 1953, and the church became a defining institution for preserving Hellenism, Orthodox worship, Greek language, and community life for generations of Baltimore Greeks.
