Yanni
I’m a military veteran and government professional based in the DMV with a strong interest in international affairs, public service, travel, and European culture. Greece has always been especially meaningful to me, and I’m interested in becoming much more involved with the local Greek community through festivals, cultural events, food, music, history, language, and social gatherings. I speak some Greek and would love more opportunities to practice, improve, and connect with people who can help me become more comfortable using it conversationally.
I also have a strong connection to Germany and speak German fluently, so European culture in general has always been a big part of my life and interests. I enjoy meeting people from different countries and backgrounds, learning about traditions, and finding the kinds of events where people actually have a chance to talk and get to know one another.
Outside of work, I’m very social and enjoy exploring the DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia area, especially Thursday through Saturday. You’ll usually find me interested in international meetups, cultural festivals, embassy-style events, live music, restaurants, wine tastings, language exchanges, city outings, and social dancing. I also really enjoy Latino and Hispanic culture, especially salsa and bachata events, festivals, food, music, and multicultural social gatherings.
My military and government background has given me the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and has reinforced how much I enjoy international environments, travel, history, and cultural exchange. I’m always interested in discovering new places around the DMV, trying a good Greek restaurant, attending a festival, or joining a group for a spontaneous night out.
On the personal side, I’m married but have been separated for about four years. I’m open about that and prefer to be straightforward. I’m here primarily to become more connected to the Greek community, make new friends, and enjoy more cultural and social events, but I’m also open to meeting the right person naturally if that happens along the way.
I joined GreekDMV because I’d like to meet more people in the Greek and Hellenic community, improve my Greek, learn about upcoming events, and become more connected to what’s happening throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia. If there’s a Greek festival, cultural night, language meetup, dinner, concert, or social event happening, there’s a good chance I’d be interested.
